The game is pretty janky and you can almost see every corner that was cut, but there’s fun to be had here.įurther Reading: 20 Most Disappointing Games Ever Made Of all of Capcom’s misguided attempts at making Resident Evil a full-fledged multiplayer game, Operation Raccoon City is the best, but that doesn’t mean much. At least the servers are still online (for now) in case you love the series so much that you just have to try this regrettable spinoff. The game feels nothing like previous Resident Evil titles, the singleplayer is boring, and the multiplayer has nothing on the current kings of the genre. With this online multiplayer title, Capcom looked at the crowded shooter market and thought, “me too,” but brought little to the table besides zombies and bad, crowded maps.įurther Reading: Capcom Releases Tribute to George A. Umbrella Corps is the Resident Evil game that literally no one asked for. Few people are clamoring for their return. Capcom eventually pulled the plug on the servers in 2007. Curiously, while the games were largely built as an online experience, there was no voice chat and players could only communicate with pre-set commands. Up to four players can tackle various missions in any order, cooperatively solving puzzles and shooting zombies. While the scenarios in each game differed, the gameplay is almost identical in each Outbreakgame. Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed and Capcom realized that it was kind of dumb to release a 32-bit horror game on a handheld slightly more powerful than the NES. While technically impressive, imagine if a 5-year-old with cataracts drew every scene from the game. At one point, the developer had apparently nearly finished a GBC port of the original Resident Evil game that featured every room and scene in the PlayStation original. Resident Evil Gaidenįor reasons that only Capcom understands, the company really, really wanted a version of Resident Evil on the Game Boy Color in the late ‘90s. Unfortunately, it still comes up very short. The third game, Dead Aim, might be the best of the lot, with a mix of first-person and third-person gameplay that is a solid attempt at marrying the two gameplay styles together. So, which titles stand out as the last survivors and which are little more than zombie fodder? Read on…if you dare.įurther Reading: Footage from Canceled Resident Evil TV Show RevealedĪll three games take place after the Raccoon City incident but don’t really add much of note to the canon. What won’t you see on this list? Remakes and remasters, which means that the new version of Resi 2 wasn’t considered for our ranking. We’ve decided to rank the very best and worst this classic horror series has to offer, from the spectacular Resident Evil 7, which completely changed the way we experienced this franchise, to Resident Evil 6, a game that tried to do too much with very little innovation. Time has not been kind to some of the older games in the series. While the latest title, Resident Evil 2 has received plenty of praise for recapturing what made the original Resi games so wonderful in the first place, including that creeping sense of fear, there are a number of other titles that haven’t been nearly as successful. The Resident Evil series is more than two decades old at this point, and like any game series that reaches that milestone, it’s seen some ups and downs. Could Ishak be next on the list, or is he the man responsible? Tracking down his more ‘unsavoury’ allies, Serena is shocked to encounter a familiar face: that of her grieving ex-partner, former Malaysian ICD officer Megat Jamil (Bront Palarae). As Serena and Heri work together to catch the killer, their inquiries lead them to industrialist/kingpin Datuk Ishak Hassan (Wan Hanafi Su), whose prominent family and known associates all have some connection to the victims. Seeking answers, Heri finds a way to insert himself into the Malaysian investigation. Meanwhile, in Jakarta, for ICD Lieutenant Heriyanto Salim (Ario Bayu), the case turns personal when his brother is found murdered in similar circumstances. Called in to investigate, Singaporean International Crimes Division (ICD) officer Serena Teo (Rebecca Lim) takes charge of a case across the border where a family has been slaughtered aboard a luxury yacht in Johor. A series of brutal murders, each sharing a signature MO, takes place across Malaysia and Indonesia. It’s purely visceral, which as a consequence has no real lasting value in the gameplay department. Unfortunately, although competent, the car chase sequences require no real skill apart from the ability to steer left and right to watch and then dodge countless scripted explosions, car crashes and other obstacles as they animate at regular intervals. In addition to the running and gunning, Agent 007 also likes to take part in the timeless cinematic staple that is, the car chase.ĭeveloper Bizarre Creations made a name for itself with the Microsoft exclusive Project Gotham series of racing games, so the inclusion of car chases in Blood Stone should be more than an afterthought and really should be an integral part of the game. Interspersed between the fire fights you’ll find some very light spy work, where Bond’s aforementioned smart phone basically solves the international mystery all by itself between games of Angry Birds and sexting M (played by a digitised Judi Dench). And it all works the controls are responsive and the snap lock-on to enemies, when aiming from cover, keeps the action moving fast and fluid. Gameplay takes place in the third-person and much like any number of recent third-person shooters Blood Stone opts for cover-based gameplay that lends itself to small and large scale shootouts in addition to some very basic stealth manoeuvring and takedowns. Sure it may only be a videogame, one of those pastimes strictly for the kids out there, but the fact is that for the Daniel Craig era of James Bond, both Activision and developer Bizarre Creations clearly set out to give an overall feeling that the sequence of modern Bond adventures could very well be seen as: Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and Blood Stone.įrom a presentation perspective the game feels in step with the recent films, offering up a very cinematic story spanning numerous locations and settings, fast cars, and even faster women. So to add even more pressure to a high profile release, Blood Stone also has the burden of continuing the new cinematic Bond style, one that in addition to the tuxedos and martini sipping isn’t afraid to get a little dirty when required. Sorry about that, it seems that the 007 license to kill extends to executing bad puns.Īhem, so it’s actually been a few years now since the last Bond cinematic outing, and thanks in part to the bankruptcy of MGM studios the franchise, as a film series, has been put on temporary hold. Oh, and it can also make phone calls if the situation calls for it. Instead this all purpose device acts as the be-all of spy gadgets, one that can bypass security doors, hack into mainframes, provide a real-time view of enemy movement through walls, as well as being able to distinguish between a normal print-out of facts and figures to one that contains hidden evidence relating to the current objective. In Blood Stone, the smart phone James Bond (played by a digitised Daniel Craig) carries around seems to be like the spy gadget equivalent of the Swiss Army Knife, albeit without the cool transformation from nail clippers to screwdriver. Well, that is of course, according to the new Bond outing, 007 Blood Stone. Nowadays the smart phone caters for all of these situations and more. To figure out where security bad guys were loitering as you crept around corners, you’d either have to be fed that information from an off-site contact looking at a satellite image via an earpiece or by a friend with telescopic lens overlooking the villa – sometimes both, just to be safe. It wasn’t too long ago that if you wanted to pick open a lock or bypass a security door you’d have to either use a fancy lock picking kit or steal a keycard with right level of security access - and one that was probably colour coded too. Thanks to the smart phone the spy game has changed, and breaking into heavily guarded villas just isn’t the fun and varied activity that it used to be. Next, you will need to retrieve the names of the AVDs that are installed. To run the Android emulator, open a Command prompt window and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\Android-sdk\emulator. Go ahead and click on the Updates Available button shown below.Ĭlick on the button in the lower left corner to install the updates. Now when you look at the Android Emulator, the version number should still be the same, but the Status column should indicate that an update is available. Next, go back to the Tools tab on the Android SDKs and Tools window that I showed you earlier. When the installation completes, close the installer and go back into Visual Studio. Make sure that the Visual Studio preview checkbox is selected and click Install. When the download completes, open the file and you will be taken to a window like the one shown below, prompting you to install the update. Keep in mind that I am working with a preview release, so it is possible that the download link could change. To do so, download the Xamarin for Visual Studio update. At the time this article was written, the current version was 27.2.7, which means that we need to download the newer version and perform an update. As you can see in the image below, the current version is 27.1.12. Go to the dialog box’s Tools tab and locate the Android Emulator. This will cause the Android SDKs and Tools dialog box to open. To do so, launch Visual Studio, and then click on the Tools menu and select the Android command, followed by the Android SDK Manager command. The only way to know for sure is to check Visual Studio and see which emulator version is currently installed. However, there is a possibility that the workload does not contain the correct version of the emulator. If you look back at the previous screen captures, you will notice that an Android emulator gets installed along with the Mobile Development With. Incidentally, you will have to reboot once the installation process finishes. You can see what the install process looks like below. Depending on the speed of your PC and the amount of Internet bandwidth that you have available, this can take a while. When you click Install, the installation process will begin. Just make your selection and click Install. NET is one of the choices, as shown in the image below. If you’re not familiar with Visual Studio, the installer prompts you to choose which workloads you want to install. The one thing that you will have to do during the installation process is to install the Mobile Development with. The process of installing the Visual Studio preview is really straightforward, although it does require a lot of disk space (nearly 15GB). That being the case, you will have to download and install Visual Studio 2017 version 15.8 Preview 1 or higher. Because the emulator was only recently introduced, the current release of Visual Studio will not work with the emulator. To use the Android emulator, you are going to need Visual Studio installed on your Windows 10 machine. You can see the Windows Hypervisor Platform shown in the image below. Now, select the options for both Hyper-V and the Windows Hypervisor Platform. Next, click the option to turn Windows features on or off. To install the required components, open Control Panel and then go to Programs, followed by Programs and Features. In case you are not familiar with the Windows Hypervisor Platform, it is a component that allows third-party virtualization stacks and applications to be used. To run the Android emulator, you will need to install both Hyper-V and the Windows Hypervisor Platform. Windows Server is not yet supported, although it seems likely that we will see Windows Server support for the emulator in the near future. Before I beginīefore I get started, I need to point out that the Android emulator currently only works on the Windows 10 version of Hyper-V. As such, I thought that it might be fun to work through the setup. One of the announcements that caught my attention at this year’s Microsoft Build conference was that it there is now an Android emulator that has been specifically designed to work with Hyper-V. Wait for the installation to terminate and close all popup windows. Now type in the library to be installed, in your example "opencv-python" without quotes, and click Install Package.Click the small + symbol to add a new library to the project.Click the Python Interpreter tab within your project tab.Open File > Settings > Project from the P圜harm menu. How to install the OpenCV library in your project within a virtual environment or globally? OpenCV is a framework for image processing and image recognition-among other things. There are two key tips that, while not easy to follow, I can guarantee will bring you success: Observe how other players use them, and learn from that to figure out how you can be effective. Learn the terminologies like blocking, chamber blocking, feints, holds, spam, stun, etc. Make sure you can at least understand what has been happening, even if you can't do the same thing yourself. If someone won or lost an encounter, try to figure out why. When playing, try to understand what people are doing. Some people also find archery to be pretty easy and intuitive, so that could be an option as well. Plus, on open fields on the dominant side, even a half decent rider will be able to rack up insane K/D ratios very quickly. I mostly recommend cav, because it's easy to run away and pick encounters on your own terms, and you're rarely forced into situations. They're easier to master than infantry, so it'll get you something to feel good about/switch to in the time of need while you tread the long and difficult road of mastering infantry. Don't take the game too seriously and just enjoy being in the middle of all the action.Īlso, play cav and archer before infantry. If you feel like trolling people by bumping into them with horses, do that. If you feel like you should be careful, then be careful. Feel free to do whatever the heck you want just for the heck of it, even if it leads to your death. The awesome thing about this game is that even if you lose, the action is still fun. Next, adopt a mindset that you're point is to have fun and to learn, and not to win, because you won't be winning for a while. Deathmatch has a lot of backstabbings, and siege has a lot of walking and waiting, but both are good second choices if you can't find a TDM server. As a new player you're going to pretty much die all the time, and you're going to need a lot of practice to get better, hence, it's a good idea to play the fastest game mode with the most crazy action and least waiting for respawn as possible. First, play TDM, or if you can't find a TDM server, play either Deathmatch or Siege. Everything, like in life, is in a state of constant transformation. Like a flashback love story whose intensity is lazily qualified by a narrator.Īt its heart, Bangalore Naatkal is about change. Like the overly cinematic bike race at the end. These moments are so tender that you’re willing to forgive the film its needlessly filmy moments. You’re moved because of their shared past, which, again, isn’t really milked. Like when a fully grown labrador gambols into Prasad’s arms. It says so much without really spelling it out. Like the scene that has the latter filling up his entire refrigerator with Slice bottles. There is so much subtlety in the script, which affects so powerfully- especially in the track between Ammu and Prasad. It’d have taken some seriously dreadful filmmaking to ruin a tale as heartwarming as Bangalore Days. It made me well up at all the right moments, even if it didn’t get me laughing as much as the original. Just mark it as Saranya’s role.īangalore Naatkal quite worked for me, despite the aforementioned minor niggles. You don’t even have to write these roles in the script anymore. As for Saranya, she’s played the impish mother so many times that she could sleep-walk through these roles. If Fahadh Faasil exuded alpha male behaviour through quiet confidence in the original, Rana also brings to the party his broad frame and musculature. His heart doesn’t seem to be filled with as much desperation for acceptance, for love.īut there are some great casting choices too-mainly Rana (Prasad, Ammu’s husband) and Saranya (Kutty’s mother). His eyes don’t really seem to have had as many sleepless nights. Arya doesn’t bring that same explosiveness to the role. You knew Dulquer was a ticking time-bomb, that you’d have to step carefully around him. Arya, meanwhile, doesn’t seem like he’s as traumatised by his past (even though he says otherwise) as Dulquer was in the original. I quite missed the childlike glint in Nivin’s eyes every time his character does something that he considers blasphemous-like ogling at an airhostess, for instance. But I wasn’t really convinced that Kutty was as innocent as the film portrays him to be. Bobby’s character, Kutty, for instance, though the weakest character of the three (and hence, perhaps the narrator), is the light of the film, every time things get a bit too dark. Both Arya and Bobby (Dulquer and Nivin in the original) play their parts reasonably well, but I thought both lacked the subtlety and finesse of the original actors. I really liked Sridivya put aside her dubbing difficulties-awkward pronunciation and often, unnaturally shrill-and she really grows on you. Storyline: Three cousins discover life and love in Bangalore When a remake is as faithful, the crucial point of discussion is invariably the main difference-cast.Ĭast: Sridivya, Arya, Bobby Simha, Rana Daggubati, Saranya A few members of the cast reprise their roles from the original including Parvathy (RJ Sarah), Sajid Yahiya (a member of a racing group), and Sijoy Varghese (racing coach). It has even retained the same composer (Gopi Sunder), who, for his part, has retained the opening hit number, ‘Maangalyam’. With the exception of a few jokes, mainly in Kutty’s track, Bangalore Naatkal is a faithful remake. I can understand Goa, but does Bangalore really hold that fascination? Are there people whose eyes go as wide as Aju’s when talking about the Garden City? “Bangalooooooore,” he whispers with the excitement of a child who’s asking for an icecream. After all, as Aju awkwardly says on the eve of Ammu’s wedding, “What ye rocking city!” Aju talks of Bangalore like it is the place of every Tamilian’s dreams. It’s the return of the tale of three cousins-Ammu (Sridivya), Aju (Arya), and Kutty (Bobby Simha, with an obvious wig)-who set out to Bangalore with little knowledge that their worlds are about to be rocked. Bangalore Days, for the benefit of audiences in interior Tamil Nadu who presumably don’t really care for subtitles all that much. |
